Before you decide on home school be sure and check out the Colorado Public Cyber Schools. Once your child is no longer part of the Public system, your child is not eligible for this program. Complete curriculum and loaner computer are furnished in most cases, free of charge. Great Program for grades K-12! Graduating with a Colorado Public School Diploma!

*Home School Tip - There are many different ways to teach our children. Be sure and check all your options and the Colorado State Laws on Education before making a final decision. New Options, such as Colorado Public Cyber Schools may be used regardless of which district you live in as long as your student is currently a Colorado Public School Student or Just starting Kindergarten (Must be 5 by Sept. to qualify). CSAP testing is required. My Personal Choice is Branson Online Academy, in Branson Colorado and can be used by any school district in Colorado.


 
Colorado Public Cyber Schools - Distant Learning - Online Schools - WebSchools - Internet Schools (If you are going to put your child in Colorado Public Cyber Schools you must make a day or two of it and make sure your kids take the CSAP tests, preferably in the district they attend CyberSchool. If they don't take the test, then the school is punished. There are statewide testing sites available for CyberSchool students.) This page, for some reason is constantly moved by the Colorado Department of Education and really hard to find when they do move it. The page at this time is http://www.cde.state.co.us/edtech/distance-coloradoprograms.asp I have also listed each site as it stands now, in case they move the main page again in the next month before the links check for this page is repeated. *Home School Tip - Incorporate Art into in any Lesson and watch your kid's excitement level increase with new projects or subjects. A few examples: Making a Poster board as a book report, doing a play about the lesson, Writing Poems to express facts about history or any subject, Creating songs with music to learn about the body, Creating shadow boxes on any subject or lesson, Design a House to explain electricity and plumbing uses for a Science lesson plan. The ideas are endless and only hampered by your imagination! Ask the kids what art project they would like to use with every new lesson plan or subject and let them figure out how to incorporate it into the lessons! Plant a seed and watch it grow!

*Home School Tip - Give the Lesson plans to all their subjects on the first of each month and allow the children to work at their own pace. I give the student/s a packet for each subject with everything they are to complete with a check off sheet for assignments due in each subject or packet. Encourage them to use the internet or libraries to find their own answers but plan to be available for questions or needed help, even at 10 PM on a Friday night, if necessary. Promise free days or time per subject for work completed before the last day of the month. I find this works especially well with Teenagers and they tend to work more hours per subject on their own this way rather than working with scheduled times for each lesson. You may just find your teenager finishing a book report the first weekend of the month when they are not required to be doing school work until Monday!

*Home School Tip - Don't speak a foreign language yourself? There are literally 1000's of option for your child to learn foreign languages! Software! (available at most libraries if you can't afford to buy it) Do an extensive "Google" search for software for your computer system and then check web sites, stores and libraries for the best prices available for your needs. Books with cassette tapes or CD's are also available and a great companion to the Software. You may just find yourself learning a new language with your child!
